FRUIT SALAD is Dorothy’s monthly queer open mic night, held on the third Wednesday of every month and hosted and curated by Rainn. Originally debuting in The Martin in October of 2021, Fruit Salad has called Dorothy a home since outgrowing the upstairs gallery since February 2022.

Fruit Salad aims to be a radically safe and queer space for performance and artistic support. Each month we hold space for ten open mic performers, reserving five performance slots first for BIPOC individuals and the second five for any interested performer. Monthly we highlight queer performers in varying mediums to hold down the Feature Performer slot for the night, and collectively donate to a giveback partner of their choice. To date, Fruit Salad has donated $5,106 to organizations ranging from abortion care to community jail support, gender confirming care, cancer awareness and more.

  • The third Wednesday of every month at Dorothy (2500 W Chicago Ave). Doors at 6:45pm and the show starts at 7:30pm.

  • Find out when tickets go on sale by following us @dorothydownstairs & Fruit Salad @fruitsaladchicago on Instagram and join our mailing list to know when tickets will go live.

  • Once you purchase a ticket for Fruit Salad, you will get a confirmation email from Eventbrite that includes a link to a sign up form that will enter you into our open mic lottery system. This google form closes the Sunday before the event.

  • Our host Rainn will email you individually if you were selected for the open mic. The list will be published via the Fruit Salad Instagram @fruitsalachicago in advance of the show.

  • You will be alerted via an email from Eventbrite if someone cancels a ticket and you become eligible to purchase that ticket. There is no waitlist or tickets sold at the door.

  • If the event is sold out, there is no waitlist and no tickets sold at the door.

  • Bummer! We will miss you! Because we have a lengthy waitlist we do ask that you request a refund through Eventbrite. Refund requests are only honored up to 24h before the show.

  • All guests must bring a physical ID. All guests must be 21+. All guests must also provide the last name of the ticket purchase at the door.

  • As often as we are able we will include air purifiers during our performances. Our show is currently mask required. Please bring your own high quality mask to our event. Due to the nature of our event we cannot guarantee that masking will be consistent throughout the event. All guests are asked to mask when not drinking or not actively at the mic.
